The Puhkemajakesed in Palenque

"We stayed in a double room which had two double beds, so it was very spacious. The room was very clean and comfortable. The best thing about the hotel was that it is within the jungle, so howler monkeys can regularly be heard very close to the rooms / restaurant, which is an incredible experience!"

"Main negative about this hotel is access to water - tap water in Mexico is not drinkable, and there are no shops near this hotel, so your only choice is to buy water from the hotel bar which costs 80 pesos for a litre, which is very expensive. I understand that water is not easily supplied, but the high price feels like intentional profiteering. Especially in such a hot climate of >30°C which requires drinking many litres of water a day. We stayed in 3 other places in Mexico which was all cheaper per night than here, and they all supplied free drinking water. One trick we used was that the entrance to the Palenque Ruins has water fountains which are accessible even before buying tickets to the site, and this is around a 15min walk away from Chan Kah, so we would encourage others to fill up bottles there rather than pay Chan Kah's extortionate price."
